Get ready for a full day of making, shaping, and experimenting in our double workshop: Foam & Thermoplastics! Across two in depth, hands-on sessions, you’ll explore core techniques for building wearable, sculptural pieces using a variety of creative materials. Perfect for beginners or makers looking to deepen their knowledge, this day is packed with demos, experiments, and your own custom creations. What to Expect: Join us in the studio for two 3-hour sessions, separated by a break to recharge. We'll kick off with foam techniques in the morning, then dive into thermoplastics in the afternoon. Arrive 15 minutes early to get settled, grab your apron, and prep for a day of focused, hands-on learning. We'll be moving through a tight schedule to pack in as much as possible, so punctuality is your best friend! Part 1: Foam Workshop 10AM - 1PM Materials & Use: Introduction to Plastazote, reticulated foam, and sizing Cutting Techniques: Learn about cutting angles, blades, and how to shape with precision Gizmo + Blade Demos Assembly Methods: Try out various adhesives and binding techniques Evostick, hot glue, and cotton tape demos Surface Finishing: Texture your foam using soldering irons, heat guns, sanding, and foam clay Painting & Priming: Understand how to prime, seal, and paint foam for durability and detail PVA sealing, priming, and latex/spray paint combos You’ll have time to test each technique and create your own foam-based elements. LUNCH BREAK: 1PM - 2PM Food isn’t provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own. we have a fridge and microwave available. There are also a few spots nearby if you’d prefer to grab something out. Part 2: Thermoplastics Workshop 2PM - 5PM Material Intro: What’s the difference between Worbla and Veraform? How does vacuum forming work? Face form demo using both materials Choose Your Path: Select your preferred thermoplastic and make a custom eye-covering piece Further Techniques: Sculpting with Worbla beads Fusing Worbla and Veraform Hot glue casting with silicone moulds Detail & Finish: Add textures, trinkets, and embellishments to your creation. Spray paint & dry brushing demo You’ll walk away with your own unique piece and a new set of creative skills. Practical Info: Arrive 15 min early for setup and materials Wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little creative in Bring a sketchbook and something to draw with (or we’ll provide materials) Pinterest boards, mood boards, and visual
