Available spots
Service Description
In these 3 hrs you will be thought all the basics that have to do with moulding and casting. Starting from what a mould actually consists of, positives and negatives, undercuts and how to avoid them, the difference between soft and hard moulds and how to cast in them. You’ll also be told about different casting materials, their properties and when best to use them. What to Expect: At first, there will be a talk about materials and what was mentioned above, then a demo of an alginate mould will be shown, and a demo of plaster and casting will be shown as well. The participants will then do their own moulds and casts and whilst they wait for them to cool down, there will be a further talk about moulds with several parts, moulding and casting materials, where to get them, keys and the importance of walling up, Waxing and releases, life casting, tools to help out with moulding/casting and how the modelling/casting shops and industry work. We’ll also be covering fiberglass very lightly by mentioning how it works but we will not be using fiberglass in this particular workshop. Alginate: You’ll be working with alginate, a skin safe material made from algae that is used in one time use moulds Plaster Cast: You’ll then cast your mould in plaster and get a replica of your hand, a finger, maybe even a foot if you’re brave! End Result: You’ll go home with a plaster cast of your own body part to use as you wish, maybe a couple fingers as ring holders, or a palm for your trinkets, maybe even an ear, although I wouldn’t be sure how that one’s used. Location: Lower Dock Walk, Unit 2, London E16 2GT Closest station: Gallions Reach DLR
